Geopier Impact Technology for Granular Soil Improvement in California.
A displacement-based ground improvement method engineered for loose granular soils and fills. No spoils removal required.
The Geopier Impact system is a displacement-based ground improvement technology. A specially designed mandrel is driven into the ground and incrementally backfilled with aggregate, with each lift compacted under high vertical force. As the aggregate column builds upward, the surrounding soil is laterally displaced and densified.
Impact is especially well suited to loose granular soils, hydraulically placed fills, and any site where excavation or spoils removal would be costly or environmentally restricted. The process leaves the site largely clean, with no augered spoils to haul off or manage.
On the resulting pier and densified soil matrix, conventional shallow footings and slabs perform very well. WGI specifies Impact piers for distribution centers, manufacturing facilities, retail and commercial pads, embankments, and tank foundations across the Southwest.
Like every Geopier system, Impact is installed under a documented quality control program. WGI confirms pier modulus, depth, and construction sequence on every project.

Both are Geopier rammed aggregate pier systems. GP3 uses a replacement approach where a shaft is excavated and backfilled with compacted lifts. Impact uses a displacement mandrel that laterally pushes soil aside as the pier is built, generating no spoils and densifying the surrounding granular soils.
Loose to medium-dense granular soils such as sands, silty sands, and well-graded fills. Impact is the preferred choice on sites where the soil profile is granular and excavation would be difficult, expensive, or environmentally restricted.
No. Because Impact is a displacement method, no soil is excavated from the pier location. This eliminates spoils handling costs and is particularly valuable on brownfield and environmentally sensitive sites.
